LAKE FOREST, ILL – In recognition of Trustmark’s continued progress in fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment, national employee benefits provider Trustmark has been recognized as one of America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity in 2024 by Newsweek Magazine. Trustmark was one of only 500 companies recognized in the mid-size category of 1,000 to 4,999 employees.
“We’re pleased to receive this recognition because it echoes what our associates tell us about working for Trustmark. The words they use to describe us in surveys are caring, flexible and inclusive,” said Trustmark CEO, Kevin Slawin. “We want our associates to know they can bring their whole selves to work. By embracing a diversity of experiences and opinions, we adhere to our values and promote innovation.”
Kristin Zelkowitz, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, said she is gratified that Trustmark has earned external validation of its efforts.
“We recognize that a diverse workforce plays a crucial role in achieving organizational success,” Zelkowitz said. “Diverse workforces foster creativity by bringing together a variety of perspectives, experiences and backgrounds. We will continue to learn from each other, foster more innovation and work together to make Trustmark a great workplace, and this award demonstrates the impact of these ongoing efforts.”
Well-poised for the future
According to Newsweek, companies that acknowledge diversity and institute measures to nurture inclusive work environments are well-poised for the future. Extensive research indicates that when individuals with diverse perspectives collaborate, it enhances creativity and innovation, contributing to effective decision-making within the workforce.
“While the attention on diversity has surged among companies, it can be challenging for job seekers, customers and potential partners to discern which organizations are genuinely dedicated to supporting a diverse workforce. In response, Newsweek and market data research firm Plant-A Insights Group are proud to present, for the second year, America's Greatest Workplaces for Diversity 2024, featuring the top large and mid-size companies recognized by their employees for genuinely respecting and valuing individuals from different walks of life,” said Nancy Cooper, Global Editor in Chief, Newsweek.
Award methodology and criteria
Newsweek and Plant-A Insights interviewed more than 223,000 employees and collected more than 1.5 million company reviews. During this survey, they collected demographic information from respondents, which was then used to weigh responses from diverse target groups. The third phase was an elaborate desk research project in which researchers collected more than 21 diversity key performance indicators.
The award considered work-life balance, proactive management of a diverse workforce, working environment, corporate culture, training and career progression, compensation and benefits, and sustainability and awareness, and company image.
Individual company diversity scores were calculated based on a scoring model. Newsweek selected for recognition 500 mid-size companies — including Trustmark — and 1,000 large companies with 5,000+ employees.
