Community Involvement

When Terri Garza is not working for HealthFitness, a Trustmark company, she runs a yard-greeting sign business with her husband. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they donated hero signs to a variety of local healthcare facilities such as hospitals and nursing homes in Ardmore, Okla.
“While we’re definitely not on the front line, it’s heartwarming to know that at least we let individuals know that we appreciate and care about them,” Garza said.
They initially donated a sign to a hospital. As people saw the sign and the happiness it brought to a stressful situation, the Garzas started to receive requests from other places in the community.
Garza first got the idea for a small sign business when she visited her brother in Houston who had placed a sign in the yard for his daughter’s birthday.
“I just fell in love with the sign and the concept,” she said. “Everyone feels good when they see a positive sign. The party was on a Saturday and by Monday I was trying to get involved.”
Whether in a pandemic or not, Garza said people shouldn’t underestimate the power of a simple uplifting message.
“We feel like it can give people a bit of happiness,” she said. “It’s an awesome way to spread joy.”
